A Day On, For Service
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Monday, January 16, 2006, the GBMCAA
participated in its first Martin Luther King Jr Day: A Day On, For Service.
It was not your typical 'day off' but a day on, for service!
On that morning, members of the GBMCAA volunteered at the Pine Street Inn in Boston. Pine Street Inn is a not-for-profit organization committed to men, women and children in need of shelter, sustenance, and the basic moral and material supports necessary to lead a dignified and stable life. It is the mission of the inn, in all its programs, to be a community of respect and hope for each guest it serves; to be a resource through which neighbors and friends can help to meet the basic needs of others; and to serve as a national leader in the fight to end homelessness.
During our time at Pine Street, we cleaned, moved storage, packaged food, prepared
food, but most importantly, we gave to individuals who could not give anything back to us.
Instead of giving back to the community, we 'paid it forward' in supporting our community
and fostering its growth. It was an extremely fulfilling adn wonderful experience.
It was a time of sharing together and giving together as brothers. "A Day On, For
Service" is a tradition that will continue. We expect to see you next January
at the Pine Street Inn.

An Overview of Bridging Bridges
The GBMCAA, in partnership with the Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts (CBMM) has
created an initiative to improve the condition of over 400 African American young men
(ages 7 to 17) in Greater Boston. The initiative called "Bridging Bridges"
establishes a collaborative network of existing outreach efforts in an attempt to reduce
the isolation and duplication characteristics of such programs.
