A multi-time medalist at the amateur level, Smith has won English, British, and Commonwealth super lightweight gold. His last contest was an impressive TKO win against Sam Maxwell, cementing himself as a threat in the division.

The Sheffield-born star faces a step up in competition in Zepeda, and the hope is he puts on a performance that Eddie Hearn, Matchroom, and sanctioning organizations can’t ignore.

The next fight is a massive one, taking him within touching distance of his dream of bringing a world title back to his home city," Grant Smith, the father and trainer of Dalton, told The Star. "He is proud of his Sheffield roots and appreciates all your (the fans) support. We want to fill all the seats available to show the world Sheffield supports its own and can turn out for its own.

Zepeda fell short fighting for lightweight and super lightweight gold in three attempts and is 2-2 in his last four fights. He lost against Richardson Hitchins in September, losing via decision for the IBF North American super lightweight title. It may be one of the last attempts at showing the 34-year-old can be a contender.

The co-main event will see Derby’s Sandy Ryan defend the WBO welterweight title against Yorkshire's Terri Harper.

Smith, 27, is looking to become a bona fide contender by the end of 2024, and if the 34-year-old Zepeda doesn’t wind up being a step-up in the ring, he certainly will be in terms of notoriety as a Smith foe. The chief support will see Sandy Ryan defend her WBC welterweight title against Terri Harper.

The Matchroom-promoted Dalton Smith will face the veteran Jose Zepeda. Zepeda comes into the fight with a 1-2 record in his last three fights and the perception that he’s on the downside of his career.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says a victory for Dalton, 25, will catapult him to the #5 spot in the WBC’s rankings at light welterweight, where he can potentially fight for the title if it becomes vacant.

Jose Zepeda lost by unanimous decision to Richardson Hitchins. The Mexican roots came out to propose from the beginning, but the African American began to dominate the fight with counter punches and with a great speed to dodge his opponent. Finally the 12 rounds lasted and the decision was by the verdict of the judges who gave the victory to Hitchins.

Dalton Smith won by technical knockout in the seventh round against Sam Maxwell. Thunder dominated the fight from the beginning with a continuous punching that weakened his compatriot, until he found a space to nail him with a right hand and send him to the canvas.
